Apple Time!

It is September and it is time to talk about Apples! I love this time of year and I am excited to start fall projects and units.

Last week, we started our Apple Unit! It is a three week unit where we talk about using our five senses to describe apples, discuss our favorite apples, learn about the apple life cycle, and we talk about Johnny Appleseed. We also create some fun apple crafts and hats!

This week, we are focusing on the life cycle and Johnny Appleseed! Next week, we will have some fun with Dr. Seuss’s book “Ten Apples Up On Top” and make our own apple hat to show our age. We will also have our Apple Day celebration to conclude the unit!

Pete the Cat Week!

This is our second week of Pete the Cat! Last week, we read Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes and Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. We made some fun projects and had a lot of fun with those books! This week, we are reading Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses, as well as Pete the Cat: Old McDonald Had A Farm.

I think it is important to build on our comprehension skills, even at a TK level. Last week, we focused on Positional words and Cause and Effect. This week, we will be working on Emotions and Making Inferences. My kiddos are young, but introducing these concepts now will make it easier to understand when we talk about them a little deeper in the future.

We are also working on letters Ee and Ff. We will be talking about words with their initial sounds, as well as supporting these letters during our Daily 5 stations. In Math, we are working on patterns through our calendar and we are working with numbers 5 and 6. We will be supporting these numbers through our Math stations.

Here are some of the projects we are working on…

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Tomorrow is our first full school week! To kick off our letters and numbers, we will be reading the books, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123.Here are some of the activities we will be doing this week! Thank you to My Fabulous Class and The Kindergarten Smogasboard for the ideas!

Here is a glimpse into our classroom!

In the last couple of weeks, I have been working on my classroom. I knew going in that I wanted to incorporate cherry blossom trees. Currently, I have three trees in my classroom – one at the front, one by our word wall, and one by our reading nook at the front of the room. They kinda bring a calming affect when I am in the room, so I hope they do the same for my kiddos! The room is coming together!

Welcome to our updated website!

Bear with me….it is a work in progress! Like my classroom each year, I like to update my website!

At the end of the school year, I always start thinking about what theme I want to create for my classroom the next school year. I tend to create around a book. Last year, I strayed a bit and created my room around Peanuts. This year, it actually came to me early this year after a discussion with a  co-worker – Kung Fu Panda! How fun will that be? No, it is not a book,  but it is time to bend my own guidelines.

I have been working hard at  drawing and painting my characters to place on my walls, as well as creating my classroom resources around this theme.  Skadoosh!
